On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress began to design the Great Seal of the United States, to reflect the Founders` beliefs, values, and new nation`s sovereignty. On the shield, the white signifies purity/innocence, the red hardiness/valor, and the blue vigilance/perseverance/justice. The stars on the U.S. Flag represent `the heavens and the divine goal to which man has aspired from time immemorial. St. Agatha - Survivor (1 Decade)

(Feast Day: Feb. 5) St. Agatha of Sicily was born into a wealthy family and consecrated to God, but was arrested by a lascivious judge whose attentions she refused. He put her in a brothel, where 30 days later her virtue remained intact. She then was tortured cruelly, and finally her breasts were cut off. St. Peter appeared to her and miraculously healed her, but she was martyred in 251 A.D. Pink rhodonite stones represent this innocent woman. Pink ribbon beads show she is the patron saint of breast cancer, and the pewter heart charm and cross signify her suffering and love for Christ. A sterling silver oval message bead of `Survivor` may be added as the joiner for $8.00. This bracelet was created in honor of my mother, a breast cancer survivor.

St. Isidore the Farmer (5 Decade)

(Feast Day: May 15) St. Isidore was born in Madrid, Spain in the latter half of the 12th century. He was employed as a laborer on a farm outside the city, represented here by earthy copper beads, green serpentine, peridot jasper, and olivine Swarovski crystals. Sparkling gold filled spacers, rondelles, and cloisonne beads recall the beauty of the celestial visions he received, and a diamond cut, gold plated cross reminds us that, amidst the back-breaking work of farming, the angels sometimes helped him finish his work in the fields! St. John Chrysostom (5 Decade)

(Feast Day: Sept. 13) Born in 347 A.D., St. John Chrysostom later became Archbishop of Constantinople and is revered as one of the Three Holy Hierarchs by the Orthodox and Eastern Catholic Churches. His surname means `golden mouthed,` after his eloquent and inspiring preaching, and is reflected here in the gold and brown quartz beads, antiqued gold pewter rondelles, silver-lined gold seed beads, diamond cut gold cross, and topaz Swarovski crystals. St. Pope John Paul II (5 Decade)

POPE JOHN PAUL II - (Feast Day: October 22nd - the anniversary of the liturgical inauguration of his papacy in 1978) After trying for years to come up with a fitting rosary for JPII, I found myself fixed on two images: his simple brown loafers and rough crucifix. Popes traditionally wore red leather shoes, but JPII quickly switched to his favorite brown loafers from a Polish cobbler. Those he wore, while lying in state, were a personal Christmas gift from a friend. The colors are echoed here in brown-red jasper, reminscent of JPII's unpretentious, humble upbringing and simple, sturdy soul. Amidst that simplicity, topaz Swarovski crystals, gold tone rondelles, and gold filled spacers and diamond-cut cross sparkle, reflecting the dignity of his priestly vestments as Vicar of Christ in the chair of St. Peter and his ultimate sainthood. (Feast Day: Feb. 14) In the 3rd century, the Roman Emperor Aurelius banned young men from marrying, because he thought married men made poor soldiers. Bishop Valentine of Terni, Italy, however, believed marriage was part of God`s plan, so he secretly joined young couples in holy matrimony. The emperor learned of this `friend of lovers,` but was impressed with Valentine`s conviction, so he tried to convert Valentine to the pagan Roman gods to save him from execution. But, Valentine refused to renounce Christianity. In February 273 A.D., Saint Valentine was clubbed, stoned, and beheaded. In 1644 A.D., the city of Terni proclaimed St. Valentine the patron saint of their city and lovers everywhere! Some folks have asked for a loose bangle size bracelet (2 1/2 inch diameter), as opposed to the standard size snug wrap (1 3/4 inch diameter), which hugs your wrist. Sometimes a bangle also is appropriate to wrap a large wrist or an older lady's wrist more comfortably. Both sizes in both the one and five decade rosaries maintain their shape and neither requires a clasp.
